I’ll be honest — I never quite finished school, and for years I had those wonderfully awkward dreams of having to go back one day! I did love it, but I had other ideas at the time… mostly about being a rock star. Music is still absolutely everything to me — I still play and sing — just, you know, not quite the rock star part. Yet.
So after seven years of attending parent-teacher evenings and school events at Blackwood High School as a parent, being invited back through the doors as their advertising photographer felt like a pretty special full-circle moment.
The brief was to create a brand new collection of images for use across a beautiful new school website and across their broader marketing and communications. Two full days of school advertising photography — students in classrooms, science labs, in the halls, out on the grounds — capturing the real culture, energy and life of the school.
And what a two days it was. The team at Blackwood High School had put together an incredibly well-organised shoot plan, and honestly, it ran like clockwork. Everything slotted into place almost perfectly, and even the small moments that didn’t quite go to plan just sort of… flowed right through. That doesn’t always happen, and when it does, it’s a really beautiful thing.
What made this one extra special was seeing just how happy everyone was to be a part of it — students genuinely engaged, teachers enthusiastic, and a real sense of pride in the place. Seeing into the culture of a school like this, and being trusted to capture it authentically for their advertising and marketing, is exactly the kind of work we absolutely love doing as Adelaide advertising photographers.
The feedback we received was so lovely, and honestly, that’s what keeps us going and keeps us loving what we do.
Not that I handed in a single assignment — but maybe, just maybe, this one counts for something!
Thanks so much for having us, Blackwood High School. It was a genuine pleasure.
